It’s About the Children

Children with Chantal

While extremely community minded, Chantal reminds us that “The Project is About the Children.”  Chantal’s compassion is apparent as she adds “although orphaned children are the priority, the door is open to anyone brought to the site.”  Most of the orphans that benefit from an SPO education have some family still living and attend SPO as day students, along with other children that have been welcomed from very low income neighbouring families.  While maintaining the original building at the ready to provide for orphans without any surviving family, Chantal has forged ahead to improve on site services for the SPO children and the greater community.

Other essential infrastructure at Shiloh Place Orphanage includes a sanitary toilet block which was constructed in 2020, and a new water well to ensure clean and safe drinking and washing water which was drilled and put into service for the children of Shiloh Place in 2021. Chantal has also ensured that the neighbouring families in her area of Lubumbashi have access to the Shiloh Place clean water well, which extends the benefits of health and well-being beyond the immediate Shiloh Place community.
